Self financing tools
Access to finance is critical for the growth of the agriculture sector. Financing for investments in agriculture is scarce, even for large investors. Self-financing has emerged as one of the more viable means for sustaining the activities at our farm. We aim to invest once, and the farm will be self-sustaining.
Seed security = Food security
For sustainability and reproduction - one of the main aims of the agroforestry system of agriculture - available and healthy seeds are a must. For this reason, we have preserved and kept our seeds from the beginning of our production. We only bought seeds (locally sourced) once at the inception of the project. We have multiplied and reproduced our seeds to date.
Seed sovereignty
Seed Sovereignty is the right of farmers to save, use, exchange, and sell their seeds. The primary issue that seed sovereignty seeks to address is the ownership of seeds as a large majority of seeds are becoming the property of bigger players in the agricultural space. This means that many farmers and Indigenous communities will have difficulty in saving local seeds that have existed in their communities for centuries.
Endangered species
For species that are hunted or collected, direct protection may be an essential conservation tool. One of our areas of work is to safeguard the ecosystem and conserve endangered species.
